Firstly, thanks for any help. I'm a noob at this. When I installed Windows 8 (Pro x64), suddenly my games ran really slowly. I tried going onto the NVidia Control Panel, yet it said something about no compatible software. I downloaded and ran the latest drivers for my 660M card, but it said it couldn't install.

Alienware M17x R3 Price
Comments: As usual, new-egg you have done well. This is why I only shop for computers/parts here. :)
Alienware M17r3 Drivers For Windows 10
Comments: So i was hesitant to buy this product at first. I usually dont buy refurbished. But i bought an asus netbook refurb from newegg and it works perfectly. so i figured id take the plunge even though it had a two star rating at the time i bought it. also the two year warranty is too cheap not to buy so i figured id have some type of guarantee.
i recieved my laptop and it wouldnt boot with the battery in. had to take battery out to boot. long story short they gave me wrong power adapter. alienware service was pretty solid responsive courteous and had an idea of what was going on. got my new power brick everythign is working great. just did my first stress test. also not a scratch anywhere on the machine.
final thoguhts makes sure you update the bios, vbios, ati driver and the osd from dell site. if you can do all this you will have one slick, stable machine. this is imperative
Comments: for the price this is a beast upgradable machine alienware case really is top notch. i wont take off a egg because of the screen because the price is so good. 6gb of memory is more than you can even use, they trick you into 12gb and more, be smarter! duel cards can use up to 6 sceens at once, i often use 2 and 3 for mixing electronic tracks in fl studeo, really comon now.
Comments: few things that needs to be done to get the laptop running smooth.
1) Update bios to A10 so the power brick ID is properly read through the system
2)5870 video card bio's has a official dell update that needs to be done to allow AMD drivers to be install *this is very important to do if your getting instability and crashing.
when all the above is complete I suggest a fresh install of windows 7
my system arrived in excellent shape not a single scratch or finger print. The R2 systems have been discontinued by dell but this is way better than the new R3 as the R3 is made from plastic and only has 1 video card, the R2 on the other hand chassis is made from anodized metal and sports dual videocard's support and can be upgraded to XF 6970, get them while there still available, IMO the best made alienware.
Pros: 1) This thing has has some really beastly hardware and runs games pretty well when it works.
2) All the lights and effects are pretty cool
Cons: Where to start?
1) Shipping packaging was terrible. It arrived with two little foam packers that was supposed to be on the ends of the laptop but they weren't even touching it when I received it. Instead the laptop was flopping around and I can see where the corner of the laptop poked through the box from being thrown around. The box was very beat up and the laptop had visible damage on that corner.
2)The laptop wouldn't even boot up when I got it. Just restarted over and over when trying to boot windows. I figured out it was because of the AC adapter and battery. If the AC adapter was plugged in and the battery was in, it would restart as soon as it passed the bios screen.
3) Only way to get it on was to keep the battery out. Updated the BIOS to version A10 and still did not fix the restarting issue. + the battery wont charge
4) Called Alienware tech support and they told me my laptop was registered to someone else and I needed to transfer the warranty before it could be
Overall Review: I am having it exchanged as of now and Newegg was very helpful. I can't say much for Dell though. I will update whenever the replacement arrives.
Comments: Alienware tech support thought directx just needed to be updated. They updated it and said everything was fine.Right after I hung up same problem.
I did a clean install of windows, installed the dell/alienware drivers..same problem.Hopefully when alienware gets back to me I won't have to go through 2 more hours of useless tech support..I just need the graphics cards replaced.
Comments: I'm normally reluctant in buying recertified items, for this reason. I'll know better next time to just listen to my instinct and not buy recertified.
On a side note another annoying thing, I've tried registering this on the dell website like the little paper they added tells me to do and it keeps telling me 'we are having issues finding this service tag.' Oh and I get the same response when I call!!! Even when I tell the tech support rep the website is having trouble recognizing my service tag.
This experience is making me rethink whether or not I should EVER by another Alienware or Dell product again.
Thanks for the terrible experience Dell!
